Kayaking Tours

The Nistru is the major river of Moldova. Of the total 1,353 km length, approximately 625 km runs along the eastern border of Moldova. We can organize kayaking trips of varying lengths, but usually lasting two days (Friday evening to Sunday evening). Along the way, there are also opportunities to combine light hiking excursions to visit monasteries, waterfalls, and other hidden treasures.

Along the Nistru you'll be exposed to the many sights and sounds of Moldova, with plenty of birds and fish along the calm waters. There are also many natural beaches and several large islands on which to rest or camp. Since our two-day trips are conducted along calm sections of the Nistru, even first time participants feel comfortable.

Here are some of our standard 2-day trips:

1) From Nimereuca to Vadul Rascov

This is the northern starting point for our rafting trips in Moldova. You will feel the potential of the Nistru and understand why so many small villages constitute part of historic trading routes.

After camping in a forested area on the right bank, the second day begins with picturesque landscapes and clear waters. No wonder one of Moldova's resort areas is located here!

Down further, you will see and visit the famous Japca monastery. Its location, isolated from transit roads and cities, allowed it to receive high permission to stay active during the soviet times. There are only two monasteries in Moldova that had that privilege: one for monks and one for nuns. This one was for the nuns.

Near the end of our trip, don't miss the hidden rock cellar and sacred spring!

2) From Vadul-Rascov to Jora de Mijloc

Along this section of the trip, you'll see the important twin-cities: Rezina and Ribnitsa, located on both banks of the Nistru. It's interesting to see that they are connected with an "aerial cargo tramway" and two bridges.

Further down, the beauty of the Nistru will include picturesque landscapes with forested hills, rocky slopes, the Saharna monastery, and a small canyon with various waterfalls. Of course, you won't want to miss having lunch at the Tipova rock monastery!

3) From Jora de Mijloc to Vadul-lui-Voda

This trip is unique by having a dam along the way. In fact, the only one on the Moldovan Nistru, at Dubasari. The dam forms a large, artificial lake which makes most of the first day between steep rocky walls. Sometime during the evening, the kayaks and gear will have to be moved on land around the dam.

Immediately after the dam, the water will be very cold and clean, as it's coming from lower layers of the lake. Here's a nice opportunity to have a splash on a hot summer day!

Further down, on the right, the Nistru will be joined by the Raut river, which infuses additional colors. The second night we usually make a stop or camp on one of two impressive islands.

4) From Vadul-lui-Voda to Gura Bicului

Beginning on the beaches of Vadul-lui-Voda, this trip brings you to Gura Bicului. This part of the Nistru is probably the most populated with islands, beaches and forested shores. There will be plenty of birds in the skies, on the trees and in the water!

Compared to the other three routes, this one provides many twists and turns, making the journey unique. Our camping spots are generally organized on a forested island or shore.
